Most AI call tools work by sending a bot into the meeting as an extra participant. Maax doesn’t, on purpose.
How Maax listens instead
Maax is a small window on your own computer. When you press Start, it captures two things locally: the system audio — whatever your computer is playing, which is the other side of the call — and your microphone. On Windows the desktop app takes the system audio directly, no share picker; in the browser you share the call’s tab with audio.
That’s the whole trick. If your computer plays it, Maax hears it: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack huddles, a browser dialer, a softphone, a phone call through a headset. There’s nothing to invite, no participant tile, nothing that announces itself to the other side. Your assistant sits on your side of the glass, so the conversation stays a conversation.
Fewer moving parts, fewer awkward moments
The bot model has practical costs beyond psychology. Bots need calendar access to know which meetings to join. They get stuck in waiting rooms. They join the wrong call, or miss the one that got rescheduled. On a cold call or a two-minute web-dialer conversation there’s no meeting for a bot to join at all.
Local capture has none of those failure modes. You press Start, you take the call. It works the same for a scheduled demo, an inbound support call, or a quick follow-up.
What you get without the bot
Bot-free doesn’t mean feature-free. From that local audio, Maax transcribes every word as it’s spoken, and the live transcript drives everything else:

- Ask — a chat with the same agent for anything nobody said out loud.
The privacy half of the story
Not sending a bot is the visible half of a bigger architectural choice: Maax transcribes your audio on the fly and never stores it — and it never stores the transcript either.
